“I just think it’s a top-down mentality,” Rodgers said after Green Bay’s 27-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “It’s being very confident in the preparation and then getting it all from God. I think God was a Packer fan tonight, so He was taking care of us.”
Of course, Rodgers’ comments appear to be a not-so-thinly veiled shot at Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson, who is known for invoking his faith. Wilson had credited God as the reason the Seahawks defeated the Packers in their NFC Championship Game matchup eight months ago.
“That’s God setting it up, to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special,” Wilson told The MMQB’s Peter King. “I’ve been through a lot in life, and had some ups and downs. It’s what’s led me to this day.”
Rodgers later retorted on an ESPN Wisconsin radio show, indicating he did not believe a higher power had anything to do with the result.
